GIANT KITE
GIANT KITE (2024) is a project by Oliviero Fiorenzi, curated by Matilde Galletti, involving the community of District 8 – Pozzo Alto – Borgo Santa Maria in Pesaro. Inspired by the Japanese ‘Hamamatsu Kite Festival’, it led to the creation of a large kite as a symbol of presence and identity, culminating in a collective flying performance. The initiative is part of the program “From Sculptures in Cities to Art for Communities,” curated by Marcello Smarrelli, for Pesaro Capital of Culture 2024.
GIANT KITE (2024) is a project by Oliviero Fiorenzi, curated by Matilde Galletti, developed in collaboration with the community of District 8 (Pozzo Alto Borgo and Borgo Santa Maria) in Pesaro. This work is part of the broader initiative “From Sculptures in Cities to Art for Communities,” curated by Marcello Smarrelli, within Pesaro Capital of Culture 2024.
Inspired by the Japanese ‘Hamamatsu Kite Festival’, Fiorenzi’s intervention actively involved the community of District 8 – Pozzo Alto – Borgo Santa Maria both during the design phase and the collective performance. After several months of work, a large kite was created as the result of numerous meetings and long conversations, especially with the young residents. It was precisely with these young people that Fiorenzi flew the kite in a collective flying performance expressing the possibility, for this peripheral area far from the city center, to ‘make themselves seen,’ a strong need emphasized by the youth.
For District 8, Giant Kite thus becomes an opportunity to release into the air a sign of their presence, a presence supported by many.
A special thanks to all the young participants involved, in no particular order: Emanuel Nolasco, Giulia Piferi, Francesca Ponzone, Isabel Rondina, Laura Pagnini, Michele Alessandrini, Alessandro Cocco, Emma Fraternali, Alice Giardini, Giada Giovannini, Esteban Salamanca, Christian Ferri, Jeni Musaraj, Edoardo Cancellieri, Margherita Moretti, Gabriella Umbri, Samuele Ragnetti, Vincenzo Laratro, Asia Baronciani, Gaia Quarta, Alex Piferi, Fritz Von Kolson, Benedetto Scordo, Emanuele Garello, Ciro Gallo, Paolo De Rosa, Filippo De Angelis, Matteo Remedia, Sergio Marsicovetere, Luca Pertosa, Laura Mosciatti.
The project was developed in collaboration with Majotech, which supported the artist by supplying WATER ZERO® fabrics.
