OPEN SIGN

OPEN SIGNS (2020) is a site-specific project by Oliviero Fiorenzi created during an artist residency at the Mole Vanvitelliana. Through a daily routine of exploring the neighborhood, the artist collected symbols, signs, and urban memories, translating them into a mural painting displayed in the courtyard of the Mole. The project, which explores the dialogue between inside and outside, was presented on September 24, 2020, accompanied by a discussion curated by Elvira Vannini and Alessio Piancone.

OPEN SIGNS is a project developed during an artist residency by Oliviero Fiorenzi at the Mole Vanvitelliana, a site that has undergone multiple transformations to become today a public space open to the city. The work investigates time and the rhythms of the creative process, structured around a slow and reflective routine lasting ten days.

The artist walked daily through the urban area surrounding the Mole, collecting information, images, memories, symbols, and objects that narrate both the history of the place and his personal journey through it. This experience was then translated into a mural painting on the exhibition wall in the courtyard of the Mole, offering the public a visual dialogue between inside and outside, between urban life and the creative dimension.

The official presentation of the project took place on September 24, 2020, featuring Elvira Vannini, art historian and critic, and Alessio Piancone, architect and urban planner, who discussed the meaning and impact of the work, emphasizing the value of the interaction between art, space, and community.
